PRIVATE AFRICAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE TOUR OF MIAMI
There are two
areas that were thriving centers for the
African-American communities in Miami. Overtown
was located just next to downtown Miami and was
sliced in half when the highways were built.
Liberty City grew out of that destruction of
Overtown, when families left searching for
larger quarters.
Overtown is now welcoming a restoration of
buildings that at one time contained a lot of
history. During prosperous years, the
African-American community made progress in
their involvement in government and politics.
Black entertainers, such as Billie Holiday, Cab
Calloway, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nat King Cole,
stayed in Overtown and entertained there. The
all-black Coconut Festival started in Overtown
when the community was not allowed to attend the
Orange Bowl.
Liberty City still boasts of local artists full
of civic pride. Its African Heritage Cultural
Arts Center is a hub of activity still today.
We will tour 3 or 4 historically important black
neighborhoods by bus, including Overtown, black
Coconut Grove, Little Haiti, and Liberty City.
In each, we will discuss its history, major
events, structures, and sites, as well as its
most famous figures.
Your guide will fill you with true stories and
tales of the past and bring you up to the bustle
that is taking over these areas.

PRIVATE JEWISH HERITAGE TOUR OF MIAMI
Florida's
economic boom started after the Great War, and
that is when Miami Beach replaced Jacksonville
as the city with the largest Jewish population,
which then totaled 5,000 people. That number has
multiplied many times due to migration from the
northern states as well as the Caribbean.
This history is true of many cultures finding
Miami a center of comfort for them. That
cultural mix has brought a great wealth of
heritage to the city.
In the case of the Jewish people, there have
been some fabulous contributions you will not
want to miss. They include the Bass Museum of
Art, the Holocaust Memorial, the Atlantis
Building, the Ziff Jewish Museum of Florida, and
the Wolfsonian. Beyond these are the
neighborhoods of the Jewish population as they
migrated through the city and suburbs.
You will tour three historically important
Jewish neighborhoods: Miami Beach, downtown, and
Little Havana. You will be able to disembark at
at least three places during the course of this
bus tour.
The Jewish people have made significant and
substantial contributions to make this community
what it is, and for that reason this tour is a
fascinating look at what makes Miami hum.

PRIVATE LATIN HERITAGE TOUR OF MIAMI
Because
of its proximity to Cuba and Central and South
America, Miami has long been the destination of
many who migrate North. Just west of downtown,
Miami is an area where many of the Latin
community have settled. It literally vibrates
with energy. The streets are alive with Spanish
conversation, the sidewalk cafeterias serve cafe
Cubano and popular Cuban dishes, parks are
filled with elderly men engrossed in dominoes,
and the quaint shops offer Cuban-style cigars
and guayabera shirts.
Where to go and why is the job of your guide,
who will entertain you with true stories and old
folktales as you travel back in time. Some of
the treasures you will see include the Brigade
2506 Memorial, the Cuban Museum of the Americas,
Maximo Gomez Park, the Juan J. Peruyero Museum
and Manuel F. Artime Library. More than that I
can't tell you - those are the secrets of your
guide. TOP

SCHOONER HALFMOON UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY
SNORKELING TOUR
Skip across the
shallow waters of Biscayne bay in search of
sunken history as we snorkel on the site of
Miami’s first and only underwater archaeological
preserve.
Built in 1906 at Kiel, Germany, the 366 ton,
schooner-rigged steel yacht Germania
participated in the prestigious Kaiser Cup races
and Cowes regattas before being captured as a
prize of war by the British in 1914. Auctioned
in 1917, she was renamed Exen and brought to the
United States by her new Norwegian owner.
Purchased by a former Assistant Secretary of the
Navy and renamed Half Moon in 1922, the yacht
nearly sank during a severe storm off of Cape
Hatteras. Sold again shortly thereafter, she
served as a floating saloon/casino in Miami
during Prohibition. She sank in the Miami River
during the 1926 hurricane but was raised to
become a fishing barge anchored in the Gulf
Stream. During a storm in 1930, she sank for the
last time on a shoal in 10 feet of water off Key
Biscayne. The Half Moon can teach us about
Miami’s maritime history and underwater
archaeological while providing a day of great
shallow-water snorkeling and diving with our
expert archaeologists to inform and delight you.
Join our marine archaeology field guides as we
bring the history of the Half Moon to life. Dive
and snorkel on this colorful wreck amid the
splendors of Biscayne Bay while you explore
firsthand Miami’s only Underwater Archaeological
State Preserve for a true day of Maritime
history and discovery. TOP

GHOST AND GRAVESTONES TOUR
It is believed
that the first Miamians were the Tequesta, a
group of hunters and fisherpeople who settled at
the mouth of the Miami River and on Biscayne
Bay's coastal islands as early as 10,000 years
ago.
Your guides are very familiar with the Tequesta
and will take you first to what is believed to
be the site of an ancient Tequesta Village
dating back more than 2,000 years. It is called
the Miami River Circle and it is a circle about
38 feet in diameter which was cut into the
limestone bedrock by the ancient peoples who
lived on this site. You will be traveling with
an archaelogist who will help piece together the
mystery that is called the Miami Circle.
From here you travel to another location equal
to the first in both its spirit and its haunting
stories. The Miami City Cemetery is the now
eternal home to the deceased pioneers and
settlers that made Miami great. The tales of
voodoo and Santeria, religions arising among
West Africa's Yoruba peoples and spread to the
Caribbean and then Florida by the slave trade,
will be shared with you. You will also see the
memorials of some of Miami's oldest families.
You will hear stories not only about how they
died but how they lived. TOP

NAUTICAL WANDERINGS THROUGH BROWARD COUNTY
The personality
of this company will be apparent when you meet.
They love what they do and their enthusiasm will
be contagious. It is because of their special
interests in Florida's history that this tour
was created.
Your first exciting and unusual stop will be a
place that could be called a museum. It houses
the largest assortment of unusual and authentic
nautical items. Although this company places
their "finds" in restaurants, theme parks and
movies, they provide an amazing collection for
you to see that is ongoing, due to their access
to the unlimited treasures in the waterways
nearby. This is one of those unbelievable walks
into the past where your imagination will carry
you away.
From here, you will travel to a colorful spot
which was once the gathering place for
gangsters, smugglers, and the local fishermen.
It is accessible only by boat, so you will take
a quick ride across the Intracoastal Waterway to
this local hideaway for food and drink amongst
the spirits who were part of its history. The
cost of your dinner is included in the tour.
Lastly, and only if the weather is clear, you
will roll up your pants and take a beach walk
through the sand to a jetty point overlooking
the historic Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse. This is
a 100-year old signal point which was the
salvation of many sailors. Hear some of the true
tales that have been passed down from sailor to
sailor. TOP

THREE LITTLE TOWNS BY THE SEA HISTORICAL TOUR
Your tour will
begin with warm smiles and handshakes as you get
to know these guides who are embedded in the
study and exposure of the history that developed
into modern Florida. Your introduction will
begin immediately as you hear fabulous stories
while you make your way to the first of three
seaside towns.
Our first stop will be the Loxahatchee River
Historical Museum. Here the convergence of the
Treasure Coast’s recorded calendar is reflected
in the form of ancient fossil shells, Seminole
artifacts, remains from the wreckage of
treasure-laden Spanish Galleons, and stories of
early pioneer inhabitants such as Alligator
Alice and Trapper Nelson. At this point, your
imagination will start to race. Luckily, these
great guides are able to handle even your
wildest questions.
Next you will find that even the location for an
unforgettable lunch has a history. Located in
the little seaside town of Hobe Sound, you will
be going waterside to an eclectic and
ever-popular restaurant which first opened on
the fateful day of December 7, 1941 under one of
the many names that it has held over the years.
This beloved hangout is built of native
tidewater pecky cypress (cut from Kitchen Creek
and milled locally). It is packed with unusual
sea-inspired artifacts and examples of local and
family history and it will delight all of your
senses, not least of which, will be your taste
buds. This great lunch is included in the cost.
Then, to work off some of that good food, you
will have the opportunity to climb to the top of
the 108-foot-tall Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. This
beautiful, bright red sentinel already rests
atop an ancient Indian mound making the
breathtaking view from the top the most stunning
in all of Palm Beach County. The story of the
survival of this lighthouse is unbelievable. It
was first lit on July 10, 1860 and has survived
wars, hurricanes, fire and the ravages of time
to become one of the most romantic and
well-loved structures in Florida.
